Didn’t Get What You Wanted for Christmas?

Fight those winter doldrums with some cool technology — or anti-technology!

  • Nest Thermostat (http://www.nest.com/) – Nowadays the lowly thermostat can be cool. Ex-Apple execs came up with a simple thermostat that does it all. As you would expect, it is elegant and includes wifi for iPhone or Android access, a proximity sensor so it knows when you are away and auto controls the unit, self learning (i.e., if you turn change the temperature up or down at a regular time, it will automatically start doing), and of course it helps saves energy/money. I want one!
  • Sphero (http://www.gosphero.com/) – This interesting toy is robotic ball that you can control with your iPhone. Think of how you could mess with your pet!
  • Cotton Candy Prototype (http://www.fxitech.com/products/) –  This computer on a USB key acts as single, secure point of access to all your personal cloud services and apps — no matter what device you’re using. Not sure what I would do with it but seems like a cool thing to have on hand if ever needed.
  • Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/) – OK, this has nothing to do with technology but is great if you want something with a human touch.  This is the world’s handmade marketplace and has been around a while. Buy or sell handmade items from art to clocks. Some really cool stuff at reasonable prices to boot.
