You see
iPod's everywhere you go nowadays. And it is not just kids carrying
them around either. More and more business people have their
trusted iPod with them at all times and can't live without then. But
what is
the person next to you listening to or watching? You might be
surprised to find out that it is not always just for entertainment.
The impetus
of this article was brought about by Keith in my office after several
of the Waident gang had a debate as to the merit of an iPod being a
business tool. I won't bore you with the details, but in the end, we
all agreed that it can be a valuable business tool, and in fact, a lot
of people are already using it that way or actively looking to
incorporate the technology into their business.
So why would anyone want to hand out an iPod to employees like they do
now with Blackberry PDA type devices? There are many reasons why this
makes sense with the core one being - information. There are a ton of
companies creating content such as podcast's that are specially geared
toward business people. Keith in my office will regularly download and
listen/watch podcast's on Cisco router configurations, VMware technical
briefs, Windows Active Directory tech trainings, etc. Ask around your
office to see if anyone is using their iPod for business content.
So what do I do with an iPod? Well, I am one of the few
remaining holdout's that do not have an iPod - yet (I have every other
kind of technology sans the iPod so go figure...). Until recently, for me, an iPod was
just a device that played music and some video's from MTV. Now after
the great Waident iPod debate, I may run out and pick one up.
So is Keith trying to get a new iPod Touch for an extra holiday bonus? Maybe. It also might just make sense to do it.
Thanks
John
